Primary education plays a strategic role in developing literacy skills as a fundamental basis for human
resource development. Reading and writing abilities are essential competencies that must be mastered by
elementary school students, as they directly influence the learning process and character formation.
However, various literacy challenges were identified among students of SD Negeri 024/IX Desa Pudak,
Muaro Jambi Regency, particularly in reading fluency and writing accuracy. This Community Service activity,
conducted through the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) program, aimed to improve students’ reading and writing
skills through participatory and interactive learning assistance. The methods employed included guided
reading activities, simple writing exercises, and play-based learning approaches tailored to the
characteristics of elementary school students. The results indicated a noticeable improvement in students’
basic literacy skills, as reflected in increased reading fluency, reading comprehension, and the ability to
write simple words and sentences. In addition, the learning assistance had a positive impact on students’
learning motivation, self-confidence, and attitudes toward the learning process. Therefore, this activity
contributes to strengthening basic literacy and character development among students as part of efforts
to support educational development at the community level.
